TikTok Slated to be Banned in the United States

The American Government has now stated that TikToK data could be compromised. The app has exploded in popularity in the United States, with a backup in Singapore, according to TikTok. But TikTok, owned by Beijing-based startup ByteDance has been on the radar since last year. When asked by Fox News if Americans should download the social media app, Secretary of State Pompeo said: We are certainly looking at banning TikTok as Chinese technology firms continues to grow.
The app was downloaded 315 million times in the United States according to analytics company Sensor Tower, but the U.S. maintains that companies such as TikTok and Chinese-based Huawei could be accessed by Beijing. But TikTok has also run into roadblocks elsewhere. Pompeo’s remarks come during a time of heightened tensions between the United States and China.
