It’s not just you – there’s actually a reason why almost everyone you see on TikTok is drop dead gorgeous. It turns out that the makers of this viral video sharing app have actively instructed their moderators to ‘weed out’ the ugly, poor, and disabled.

TikTok’s Explosive Growth

Though most users wouldn’t be able to tell from the app, TikTok is actually owned by a Chinese company that is owned by ByteDance, a Chinese tech company founded in 2012. Launched in China in 2016, the app began to grow considerably. In 2018, the company brought the app to the US, where it merged with Musical.ly and quickly experienced explosive growth.

No More Ugly People

As popular as TikTok is, it turns out that formerly unreported Chinese internal papers, along with conversations with numerous sources straight aware of TikTok’s censorship activities, provide new details concerning the business’s efforts to impose stiff censorship of ‘undesirable’ people throughout its reported 800 million regular monthly customers. This is ironic as it at the same time attempts to bolster its image as a worldwide paragon of self-expression and anything-goes creativity.

Any videos showing rural destitution, slums, beer bellies, and misaligned smiles are to be removed or suppressed.
